Trichotillomania is often thought of as a relatively new disorder. There
are, however, many references to hair pulling throughout history. Not all references to hair pulling would be strictly classed
as Trichotillomania. Some are merely self grooming but it does show that pulling out ones own hair is not as rare as it was
once thought. Here we will try and untangle the mystery of hair pulling through the ages.
